Stewart Canter – Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina
Completed counselor training with a Master’s in Counseling from WCU in 1989. As a practicing therapist, Stewart began working with at-risk youth in public schools and group homes incorporating adventure-based counseling. He has also worked in private and public mental health clinical settings with adults and adolescents, provided clinical assessment consultation to the Department of Social Services offices in nine NC counties, and worked with veterans in the VA’s Veterans Rural Health Initiative. In private practice he has focused on trauma intervention since 2005. In that time he has earned certification in the Trauma Resiliency Model and independently researched and integrated the use of horses into this treatment model. Born & raised in WNC, Stewart enjoys playing banjo, woodworking, marquetry, and trauma studies.
M. William DeBruhl – Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State
Will graduated with an MSW degree from Fordham University in May of 2014 with an emphasis on community based practice and leadership, and clinical therapy. He has worked as a steel worker in Australia, a community organizer in New York City, a carpenter, an advocate and political campaigner, and traveler. He uses these experiences to inform his current practice. His therapeutic philosophy is an eclectic approach of mindfulness, CBT, narrative psychology, and acceptance. He is a strengths based social worker who believes that with patience and persistence, therapy has the potential to transform our common habitual thoughts and behaviors.
Lelia Canter – Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist (NC#8615), Therapeutic Riding Instructor, & Centered Riding® Instructor
As a Centered Riding® Instructor, Lelia Canter works with adults & children from beginners to intermediate riders. As a Therapeutic Riding Instructor she works with Operation Pegasus™ clients, and children with a wide range of challenges such as learning disabilities and developmental disorders. She currently operates her practice Lelia Canter BodyWorks for Horse & Rider, incorporating Red Light Therapy, JENT, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, and Reiki in her sessions with horses and riders. She integrates bodywork through teaching Centered Riding® and therapeutic riding with clients in Asheville and surrounding areas.
